Kayla's Story

IMG_2624~2.jpg

Welcome!

I am Kayla Bear a proud woman of Metis decent. I am also a mother, wife, daughter and creative at heart. I live in Prince Albert with my husband and children. I believe in investing in our children and future generations, to allow them freedom to explore what they love.

My Story

My creative journey started in school where art was a favorite subject. In junior high school I learnt how to sew, but after class ended that was it. Fast forward to me becoming a mom in 2016, I was on a creative journy. I found a touque I loved in usa but the cost to get it here was not feasible. I thought to try to sew one for my son, and then with social media exposure, more mommas wanted them. This started HB Poms, an online store.

Fast forward again to 2022, the birth of my daughter and my continued journey to learn about myself, family history and expand my sewing creativity.

This lead us taking our daughter to her first Pow Wow as a dancer. The drums, dancing and energy when someone you love is dancing is like no other. I have tears in my eyes thinking back to that very first tiny tot dance. I was able to create Regalia for a fellow young dancer and friend and seeing her dance in her jingle dress Regalia I created and sewed brought another spark I didn't know was there.

This blossomed into where I am now:

  • Creating my visions of my Metis culture into Ribbon Skirts to be worn with pride during ceremonies or as an everyday expression of culture.

  • Creating Regalia for our daughters to dance with pride and keep their culture alive.

  • To continue to learn, to grow and to teach our future generations to be able to do the same through expressing themselves in clothing and dancing. Our children need a safe place to express themselves and to be able to connect to culture.

Thank you for being here, supporting local, and supporting Indigenous.
